NTA Managing Director, Edmund Forh Forh addresses the press

In a significant stride towards improving public transportation, the National Transit Authority (NTA) unveiled its ambitious revitalization plan during a press briefing led by the Managing Director, Edmund Forh Forh. Highlighting achievements and future initiatives. The presentation outlined the NTA's commitment to restoring lost years of operation, enhancing service delivery, and ultimately transforming the entity into a robust corporate entity capable of meeting the transportation needs of the public. During the press briefing, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, MD Forh acknowledged the challenges faced by the NTA over the years and emphasized the importance of strategic planning in overcoming these obstacles. "When we took over, the condition of the entity was far from satisfactory. Our goal is to restore it to its rightful place, serving the citizens effectively," he stated. The past year has witnessed significant developments, including the repair of 13 out of 15 damaged buses, a fleet made possible by a budget allocation of $300,000 from FY 2024. MD Forh emphasized that delays in repairs were primarily due to the need to source specific parts from India, which caused unexpected complications, including the rewiring of the buses due to previous vandalism. The NTA also introduced an HR manual, comprehensive standard operating procedures, and a five-year strategic plan aimed at guiding the entity's operations. The completion of these foundational documents is expected to foster a culture of transparency and efficiency. "Creating a uniform compensation metric for our employees is essential for promoting harmony and encouraging better performance." Furthermore, the NTA is prioritizing employee welfare through the introduction of health insurance. MD Forh also announced that a health insurance tender Bid has been finalized and that employees will soon be able to enroll themselves and their dependents. A noteworthy aspect of the NTA's progress is its collaboration with the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) to install designated bus stops, which will enhance the efficiency and safety of public transportation. MD Forh mentioned that the goal of the current management team is to not only repair the current fleets but also to expand it. He further emphasized that the NTA is committed to ensuring that our operations are customer-focused, and the management is prioritizing training for our staff to enhance service delivery. The NTA recently signed a contract with ABK Incorporated to procure an additional fleet of buses, including 35 large buses and 20 smaller ones, signaling a commitment to expanding its capabilities. With a total project cost of approximately $3.94 million, including interest costs, the NTA is poised to enhance its services significantly. This investment is critical for alleviating the transportation challenges faced by the public. As the National Transit Authority embarks on this transformative journey towards improving public transport services, the MD displays a clear vision for the future. With ongoing investments in infrastructure, fleet expansion, and employee training, the NTA aims to restore public confidence in its capabilities. We are not just reshaping our operations; we are shaping the future of transportation in our community. The road ahead may be long, but with these initiatives, the NTA is determined to navigate it successfully, ensuring that public transportation becomes a source of pride and reliability for all citizens under the Unity Party Government.
